Pokemon Saiph 2: The VytroVerse Part 3
Stranded in the Regris region with a full Gen 1-8 Pokedex and two challenge modes
About Pokemon Saiph 2
Pokemon Saiph 2 is the third part of Vytron's VytroVerse, a connected series of FireRed hacks: Saiph, Sors, Saiph 2 and the in-progress Sors 2. It picks up three years after the first Saiph, with returning hero Micah โ now Champion of the Colen region โ and his friend Darlo flying home from an event. Their plane goes down, and the two are stranded in the faraway Regris region.
From there the goal is simple: find Darlo and find a way home. Regris is a fully new region with side quests, in-game events and post-game content, and the story is mostly standalone, so you can start here even if you skipped earlier entries. Players who know the series will catch more references, though.
Technically, Saiph 2 runs on the Complete Fire Red Upgrade (CFRU), so modern battle mechanics come built in, along with a battle AI that actually plays properly. The Pokedex covers every generation up to Gen 8, and a DexNav helps track down rare encounters. Instead of standard Mega Evolution, the hack introduces Ancient Regression, a mechanic that works in a similar way.
The final release is v1.4.0, updated in May 2024 and available in English and Spanish. The author states that from v1.4.0 onward all major emulators should be compatible, and provides alternative builds for players whose emulator struggles with FireRed's clock or the hack's lag-fix.

Difficulty & Who It's For
On the default mode, Saiph 2 is a solid, moderately challenging adventure with smart AI. Hero Mode adds trainer scaling, forced Set mode, tougher boss battles and fixed save spots instead of saving from the menu. Vigilante Mode keeps all of that, makes wild Pokemon scale to your lowest-levelled party member and soft-resets the game after a loss.
That range makes it suitable for very different players: story fans can stay on normal, while challenge runners can treat Vigilante as a built-in hardcore mode. It is one of the better choices for players who want a long new-region story with modern mechanics on GBA.
If you have not played the series before, you will still follow the plot; earlier entries mainly add context about Micah and Colen.
Tips for Your First Playthrough
- Choose your mode carefully โ Vigilante restarts after any loss, so it is not a casual setting.
- Enable the real-time clock in your emulator for the day/night system; if your emulator cannot emulate FireRed's RTC, use the 'Time Based Removal' build.
- Use the DexNav to target hidden abilities and better encounters early.
- Do not move a Pokemon to the PC right after changing its nature: a known bug can revert it.
- The author does not provide cheats, and codes for vanilla FireRed will not work on CFRU.
What Changed in the Latest Version
Version 1.4.0 is the final release and focused on compatibility, with the author saying all emulators should now run it. Vigilante Mode's wild-Pokemon scaling arrived in v1.2. Remaining known issues are cosmetic: the Town Map marker can be misplaced in side areas, the TM Case has visual glitches, and Unown is called Beartic in one DexNav text box.
