Pokemon Lazarus
A full adventure through the Aegean-style Ilios region, from the creator of Emerald Seaglass
About Pokemon Lazarus
Pokemon Lazarus is a complete Game Boy Advance hack by Nemo622, the developer behind Emerald Seaglass. Built on Pokemon Emerald, it drops the player into Ilios, an original region modelled on ancient Greece and the Aegean islands, with its own story, its own towns and a custom soundtrack. After a series of demos, the full game came out on November 14, 2025.
Where Seaglass was a nostalgic reimagining of Hoenn, Lazarus is a brand-new journey. The map leans on island hopping, coastal ruins and a university town, and side content is everywhere: the creator advertises more than 60 sidequests, plus mini-games such as a fishing game in the style of farming sims and a mining game for fossils and evolution items.
The roster covers more than 400 species from all nine generations, and the first choice is already bigger than usual. Instead of three starters, Lazarus offers nine. Weaker Pokemon received stat adjustments so that more of the Pokedex is viable, and some species only show up at certain times of day thanks to a working day/night cycle.
Version 2.0, released in February 2026, is the biggest update since launch. It added six new Mega Evolutions, an option to turn off level caps, a rebuilt DexNav shiny system and a long list of balance changes and bug fixes. Saves from earlier versions carry over, so existing players do not have to restart.

Difficulty & Who It's For
Lazarus has two difficulty modes. Normal uses soft level caps and standard gym leader teams, which makes it a comfortable first playthrough for anyone who enjoyed Emerald Seaglass. Hard switches to hard level caps and modified gym leader teams, and opponents gradually gain a level bonus that reaches +5 by the end of the game.
That split makes it one of the friendlier new-region hacks around: casual players get a full story without grinding walls, while experienced players can turn on Hard Mode and still be pushed. If you want pure difficulty with no room to relax, a dedicated challenge hack is a better fit.
Tips for Your First Playthrough
- Pick your difficulty at the start with care; Hard Mode changes gym teams, not just levels.
- Mega Evolution opens up after Niko's quest around Sofos City, the town of the fourth gym. Niko then sells Mega Stones in Acrisia University.
- The Move Relearner in Pythios Town needs 20 Pokemon caught, so register new species as you go.
- Do the university student Pokedex quests; their rewards add up.
- On Android, the admin of one download page reports that PizzaBoy or RetroArch with the mGBA core work better than My Boy, which can have trouble with followers in Pokemon Centers.
What Changed in Version 2.0
The headline addition is six new Mega Evolutions: four original ones for Typhlosion, Carracosta, Aurorus and Tyrantrum, plus Mega Crabominable and Mega Golisopod. Several existing Megas were rebalanced too, for example Mega Heliolisk becoming Electric/Fire with Drought and Mega Greninja getting a once-per-battle Protean.
Quality-of-life changes include a toggle to disable level caps, the ability to change a Pokemon's Poke Ball by using a new ball from the Bag, and a cheat code that unlocks battle items. The DexNav was recoded so that shiny rerolls start at four, with each Shiny Charm and longer chains adding more. Dragapult now evolves at level 48 instead of 60, and a large batch of bugs was fixed.
Lazarus vs Emerald Seaglass
Both games come from Nemo622 and share a love for side activities and polish, but they aim at different things. Seaglass reworks Hoenn with a Game Boy Color look and a Gen 1-3 focus. Lazarus is a new region with a much larger, modern Pokedex, Mega Evolution and difficulty options. If you finished Seaglass and want more, Lazarus is the natural next step.
